An Evening Prayer

In this moment, where are you? How are you doing? Let’s sit together for evening prayer and talk.

It’s been a rough week for me – more letting go than rejoicing. Things have come and gone. What about you? Whatever the days have brought, we are here together now in this sacred space. (Yes, the internet can be a sacred space, if we allow it to be.) The darkness of evening has come.

Darkness can be many things: beautiful, comforting, scary, deadly. We can even be within a dark night in our soul. However, the darkness can also be a sacred space. It reminds us that, no matter where we are or what we’ve been through, God is there. “If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will hide me, and the light become night around me,’ even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.” (Psalm 139:11-12 NIV) Job and Daniel echo this. God is there. whether we feel that or not. That Presence changes the very essence of darkness into light. We are never alone. We remain in God’s light. We remain fully loved and beautiful.

Review the day or week you’ve had again. As we think on that, remember God saw it all. The Spirit lives in you and lived through that with you. You are not alone.
